The speeches

Hello World !

20120630-133335.jpg

Pheww ! This week has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions ! I had felt SUPERBLY embarrassed , worried , despondent , exuberant and many many more . Best not to bore you guys with the embarrassed and the despondent part .

But before I begin , I wanna say thank you to Syafiqah for helping me to clear up the mess I made that made me embarrassed alright πŸ™‚

Ohkays , well , this week was kinda a stressful week . I’m beginning to feel the pinch of being a Sec 4 student who is in the process of preparing for Os . I promise to work as hard as I can and to show to everybody I need to show that I can achieve and succeed πŸ™‚

However , there were some highlights of the week that simply made my day , and I’m going to share it with you guys ! πŸ™‚

Well , firstly was Ms Lam . I simply love her you know ? Yes , she’s long winded and really slow in finishing the syllabus but I simply appreciate her . Her relationship with us is really close and she treats us like a friend . She tells us stories of her life which no doubt left a deep impact in my life . She told us that it’s extremely rewarding to her to leave an impact in a child’s life . Well , she did that to me alright and now , I’m beginning to look up to her . She’s an inspiring figure and I will always remember her advice she gave us .

She told us that whenever if we’re feeling depressed or anything , when our life just doesn’t seem to fall in place , do not despair . For we are all born as champions . And why is this so ? Because we are made from the fusion of the sperm and the egg . Imagine , if that one sperm didn’t give up and did not make it to the egg to be fused , we wouldn’t have been here at all . That sperm was a champion . We are a champion .

Well , I know the concept is kinda amusing and rather inappropriate to kids – we are at reproduction in man – but I think it’s very very true .

When she said it , I felt something stir inside me . Because it is the truth and I will remember it πŸ™‚

Next was the 3 speeches which my English teacher gave me . One was the speech by Martin Luther King , where his zeal of wanting to stamp out inequality amongst the whites and the blacks was just simply admiring . One was the controversial speech made by an English teacher to a group of American graduates . Though the language used was colourful and there were lots of statistics involved , the end was simply amazing . And the last one was Steve Jobs speech delivered to Stanford University graduates which taught me to believe in myself , not second-guess my decisions and to follow my heart . All 3 speeches are amazing and inspiring . You guys should definitely go and check em out !

Lastly was the Punk’d episode I saw on MTV yesterday . Dianna Agron’s and Zac Efron’s reactions were simply sooo amusing to look at !! Hahaha . I really laughed at their worried faces and their reactions when they realized they had been pranked . Simply funny !!

Well , yesterday I had my Mother Tongue O level Orals too . It was overall ohkays . The questions were pretty ohkays πŸ™‚ and the examiner seemed impressed . I dunno lol . I felt I answered one question wrongly though . And I thought that question was part of the conversation topic , but it was inextricably linked to the picture discussion LOL . Oh wells .

Meeting Ms Lim today later to watch Amazing Spiderman . YAY !!!! Finally meeting her !!! πŸ˜€

Words are the way of life

“I loved words. I love to sing them and speak them and even now, I must admit, I have fallen into the joy of writing them.”

-Annie Rice

Sense of accomplishment when you’ve completed notes for 4 Chemistry chapters !

Enjoy the Sunday ! πŸ™‚

“Message still ferociously fresh”

Finished reading Animal Farm by George Orwell . It is truly an amazing and interesting read . True enough , it was targeted towards Stalinist Russia and I could see Napoleon was Stalin . Though the language used was simple and really easy to understand and there’s a tint of humour and lightness to the novel , there is a deep message beneath it all . No wonder it is used as a literary book for some schools .

Like every other times I’ve informed you guys I’ve finished a book , I would always try to have an excerpt for you guys πŸ˜€

“But they had not gone twenty yards when they stopped short. An uproar of voices was coming from the farmhouse. They rushed back and looked through the window again. Yes, a violent quarrel was in progress. There were shoutings, bangings on the table, sharp suspicious glances, furious denials. The source of the trouble appeared to be that Napoleon and Mr. Pilkington had each played an ace of spades simultaneously.

Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.”

It’s a great book ! Yet another one of the books which I will recommend to my friends and to you readers ! πŸ™‚

Well , today was spent having tuition – learnt further integration and beginning on Area of a Region . Then currently in the process of doingΒ Chemistry notes . It’s painstaking to do notes for 4 chapters – Air , Fuels , Alkanes and Alkenes . They’re all Organic Chemistry chaps , except for Air . Aaaahhh ! I can’t believe my teacher rushed through 4 chapters in a week . How issit possible that we students are able to absorb everything ? I’m superbly blur on Alkanes .

Ms Lam’s – my biology teacher – mantra is right . There is no use rushing through the syllabus to complete it when you can’t even understand what’s being taught .

My history teacher saw me reading Animal Farm and she recommended me another one of George Orwell’s books – 1984 . She told me further that it was her favourite book of all time . She brought it up as references and examples when she was teaching English . Hmmmmm , I think I should pick that up too !

Humility counts

Hello World !

It’s Friday todayΒ ! Which means I have the time to update this bloggy of mine .

This week , school reopened for me , and we went back for normal lessons . I’ve gotta say , it has been a really tiring and unmotivated week for me . Everyday , I’d wake up having the resolution of not coming to school , because it is still the holidays for most people . Then came my conscience of “If I don’t go school , I’d miss remedials , I’d miss organic chemistry lessons (which btw, I’m super blur at) , I’d miss integration ……..” Yeahs . So I willed myself to get up and go to school . And I’ve been late for quite a number of times . HEHE . It’s the hols anyways , people either come ON time or later . No one really comes early LOL .

I’ve witnessed one particular kind deed done to me by a classmate of mine this week , and it got me thinking alot . I love to think , like I mentioned . I just don’t like to think bout maths equations which I’m still waiting to be applied in real life πŸ˜€

One thought that struck me this week : Humility counts .

And that was what was demonstrated to me this week . Well , what happened was , my classmate of mine came up to my table and read my Situational Writing script , which was 20/30 . In my opinion , I think it was ohkays , not that good nor that bad . This classmate of mine – he was the first in standard for English for the cohort during MYE .

Yeaps , and to further add : He isn’t a Singaporean . He’s a Chinese National . No no , I’m not condemning foreigners here , just to be clear πŸ™‚ I believe he worked hard for it and hence gotten the marks he deserved πŸ™‚ But I guess what struck me the most was that he did not become arrogant and conceited even though he managed to outdo the Singaporeans . I’m not the brightest English student in my class and I don’t think so he read my scripts before , but yet he came up to me whilst I was doing corrections and he asked me for my script to read it . What drove him to read my script –Β I’m clueless , because like what I’ve mentioned , I don’t think he read my scripts before , nor knew whatΒ kind of stories IΒ wrote . (Maybe he secretly reads my blog HEHE) Β I dunno , I guess I’m the kind of person who appreciates these small actions , and feels honoured easily , because I believe small actions go a long way and make a much more deeper impact than a big one πŸ™‚

And that’s not the only thing he’s done that touched my heart . He asked me if I had a letter for oral exam , cause I had a speech disorder and this may affect my marks . I will treat it as a genuine concern πŸ™‚

So , Yan Chao , if you’re reading this , thank you berry much πŸ™‚

Next thing I thought of , just today itself – Where will I be one year from now on ? Well , this thought came up to me because I was thinking of the Amazing Spiderman movie that will come out on 28th June . And Andrew Garfield is hot . Hot guys = Grant Gustin . Grant Gustin = auditioning for Finnick . Finnick = Hunger Games . Catching Fire = coming out November next year . Trailer for Catching Fire = June next year .

So that’s how I thought of what will I be one year from now onwards ? Apparently I have thisΒ eccentricΒ talent of linking things which have absolutely no link at all . I can jump from issues to issues LOL . Bizzare talent . Maybe I should invent a tv show called BIZZARE TALENTS .

KAY MOVING ON .

Hmmm , I imagined myself to be doing work from a particular JC . What JC , how I wished I know . I’m not really considering poly , because the courses which I wanna take may not ensure an easier entry into a university . And then perhaps I’d reminisce upon the times spent preparing for my Os , and how I would want to go back to taking my Os again , because it is so much easier than the work I’m handling now . Of course , perhaps the trailer for catching fire may be out , and if grant lands the role of Finnick , I may be fangirling – or may not , crushes end very fast for me . Who will be my friends ? Will I keep in touch with my secondary school mates ? What CCA will I join ? The possibilities are endless .

Yeahs , so I basically just shared my thoughts on this past week πŸ™‚

Sometimes , I feel angry at you because I’m not truly an understanding person . Being the person who sacrifices and compromises is difficult , and this may affect my reasonings because for once , I wished you’d choose me instead . But then , sometimes I pity you , because afterall , you’re the only one that’s left , and if she isn’t around , you’re gonna be alone . I dunno what to feel anymore . So I’ve decided that I will talk to you , just perhaps not so often , which is sad , but I guess everything happens for a reason . Not like I’m cutting off ties with you anyways πŸ™‚ I just hope that you’ll remember me .

xoxo ,

The zoo and the bookstore

Hello World !

Ohkays , here are some delayed – if you would say so (we went on Thursday)Β – photos of my trip to the Singapore Zoo with my sisters , my niece , Shifa and brother-in-law πŸ˜€ Enjoy ! πŸ™‚

That’s the WHITE TIGER ! πŸ˜€

Huh ? Who would have thought ? Hahaha . When I saw this , my sister was like “GO TAKE A PIC OF IT .” I’m like “WELL , OHKAYS THEN ! :D”

Check out the uneven distribution in heightΒ !

If you’re wondering what’s that , that’s a python . I forgot what’s the full name , but it’s a python alright – and a really long one πŸ˜€

So yeaps , those are some of the photos that I had taken there πŸ™‚ My photography skills are improving ! YAY . Hahah . Which means I can actually use a DSLR if I want to πŸ˜€

Ohkays , today , went to Parkway Parade with parents to rent books from San Bookshop πŸ˜€ Yeahs , some people said that renting books may not actually be worth it . However , there were a few times where I’ve tried to borrow the books from Geylang East National Library , but they just don’t seem to have the books I want . Which can be really frustating at times . And I don’t really frequent the main National Library at Bugis . Hence , the San Bookshop at Parkway Parade has become my bookstore paradise πŸ˜€ Because it doesn’t let me down all the time – unlike the Geylang East library .

So , went there to rent out George Orwell’s Animal Farm – which is actually a literature book and a history book , from what I’ve read from the synopsis . And there were really good reviews from people who are proficient in the English Language about this book . The author even wrote an amazing article about the use of English Language , which I’ve read thanks to Ms Lim πŸ˜€ Actually I wanted to rent Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being A Wallflower , but it was out of stock , so fortunately , the benovelent bookskeeper asked me if I wanted to reserve it , and I went all wide-eyed , not knowing that was possible . I actually wanted to read Animal Farm for quite sometime , so I treated it as an opportunity for me to rent out that book πŸ™‚

I also rented out David Nicholls’s One Day – which of course , is a must read for those who are into romantic novels πŸ˜€ And to those who did not watch the movie – like me – I guess what better way to know the story than to read it ? πŸ˜€

Yeaps , can’t wait to dive into those books . My mum went all wide-eyed at me when I told her I finished Lone Wolf already . HAHA . And she admitted I was a bookworm alright πŸ˜€

Then went to Popular to buy some highlighters and marker pen and a water bottle πŸ™‚

Tomorrow’s the start of school for me . The start of hell , the start of the excruciating part of the race to Os .

Grrrrr ~ I hope I have the stamina to survive it .

Oh btw , if you beautiful readers out there want to follow me at instagram , you can do so @shabirabasheer πŸ™‚ But I have to warn you guys , I’m selective of the people I follow πŸ™‚
