“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself. When you are born a lotus flower, be a beautiful lotus flower, don’t try to be a magnolia flower. If you crave acceptance and recognition and try to change yourself to fit what other people want you to be, you will suffer all your life. True happiness and true power lie in understanding yourself, accepting yourself, having confidence in yourself.”
~Thich Nhat Hanh , The Art of Power
Been listening to Katherine McPhee’s Shake It Out cover by Florence and the Machine whilst doing Math , and can I just say , I love that song ? It’s really really inspiring 🙂
Happy Youth Day people ! 🙂
The grandmother by the cottage house – Part 2
They raced forward , and there , they found a frail old woman of about 80s . She had grey ringlets that were neatly combed and though she was aged , she was still strong . Strong enough to get both of them to settle in and offer them a tall mug of her heavenly chocolate milk .
And then , that’s where they learnt . They brought home with them the gift of wisdom , provided by the old lady . She taught them what schools did not emphasize .
The old woman began , “Dear children , you’re young – full of youth and eagerness to explore the whole world . I always admired the enthusiasm that you young people always seemed to have inside of you . I was very much like you two , and more often than not , I’ve always missed this enthusiam that I once used to have inside of me . But one thing saddens me is that kids nowadays just don’t seem to think anymore . They just live life for the sake of living it . They don’t want to live a life which matters , which when you look back upon , will bring you smiles . They don’t want to leave this world with a mark . They don’t cherish what life has to offer , do they ? Every single day , they are always so carried away with the hustle and bustle of their daily activities that they don’t stop to listen to the music of life . They don’t stop to appreciate the little things life has to offer . How many times do you stop to listen to the birds chirping at your balcony or the sounds of the waves lapping at the sands ? Do you stop for just a moment simply to thank and be grateful of what you have , instead of wishing for things which you don’t own . Do you give , instead of constantly receiving ? And most importantly , do you ever love ? Because love is such a wonderful thing , but it saddens me that some young folks do not even believe in that . It saddens me deeply . Now , I don’t wish to go on , but I have a request . Before you think your life is turning downhill and not going the way it should be , always stop and ask yourself – Why are you here ? Are you here to concede defeat ? Or are you here to rise up out of the rubble and move on to chase your dreams ? And don’t ever stop to be thankful of what you have . Don’t live your life full of regrets and most importantly , don’t ever give up on love . Put that enthusiasm to good use .”
For a moment , they were muted . They were at a loss for words for the old woman has just spoken the truth . They started their journey back home and throughout the journey , they didn’t speak to each other . They just took in what life has to offer .
~It’s a simple story which I’ve thought of , inspired by YM&C . Hope you like it ! 🙂 If time allows , I’d do more of such stories 🙂
It was in those woods where they trudged uphill , turned left , turned right and went downhill . They were overwhelmed with fatigue and a sheen of sweat glistened on their foreheads . They were just merely capable of putting one foot in front of the other , in the hopes that they will encounter something else other than the greenery and the amber trunks the trees were gifted with . It was no doubt they were lost in the wilderness of the forest , but instead of being sullen and petulant , they felt a strange sense of tranquility . A strange sense of serenity in which they could not comprehend . Perhaps it was because the woods provided the haven for them to escape the flurry of activities in the city , where the asphalt of roads threatened to choke them . Yes , they felt they could just collapse on the forest floor and sleep there forever , but in a way , they felt relieved to have chosen the wilderness the woods had to offer for their vacation . It provided them a whole new perspective to life and made them see the other side of the earth . The side they wished they lived in .
Suddenly , they saw a thin ray of sunlight penetrating through the thick canopy of leaves . As if engulfed with renewed energy they didn’t knew had it in them , they ran towards the sunlight hoping to encounter someone whom they could seek help to . No doubt the woods were really seductive but they had to seek help should they even wished to stay alive .
Out they were in the open air . Everywhere , fields of rich lust green grass laid beneath their worn out soles . The meadow was filled with flowers of different sorts – roses , chrysanthemums , lillies , daisies that were in full bloom , in full spring . They were greeted with a kaleidoscope of colours and the scenery just took their breath away . And suddenly they saw it . An old cottage house just sitting in the middle of the field .
